Fruitcake is an International delight. While we love fruitcake in America, fruitcake is a favorite around the globe. The various flavors of fruitcake are a sensational way to experiment with your favorite treat.
Fruitcake in Germany is called a Stollen and is usually served during the Christmas season. This loaf fruitcake has powdered sugar on the outside with goodies such as almonds and raisins inside.
If you travel over to the beautiful Bahamas, they serve a fruitcake drenched in rum. All the ingredients in a Bahamas fruitcake are soaked in very dark rum including raisins, candied fruits and walnuts. When Bahamas fruitcake is done baking, rum is poured right onto its hot surface.
Now that you're intoxicated by the idea of the Bahamas rum fruitcake, let's take a trip over to Bulgaria. Usually fruitcake is associated with the winter holidays but in Bulgaria, they serve a fruitcake called Kozunak at Eastertime.
After our excursion to Bulgaria, we are heading to Italy for fruitcake. Since 13th century Siena, Panforte was served in Italy. This dense, chewy fruitcake has spices and is baked in a shallow pan. Genoa has a crumbly version of this fruitcake called the Pandolce. In Milan, a fruitcake called the Panettone is popular. All the fruitcakes in Italy are irresistible.
From Italy fruitcake, we go to Romania to sample their tantalizing fruitcake called Cozonac. This fruitcake is so popular in Romania it is traditionally served for all major holiday including New Year, Easter and Christmas.
After feasting on fruitcake for every holiday in Romania, we visit Switzerland to check out their fruitcake. In Switzerland, candied fruits and nuts are in their sweet, light and fluffy fruitcake called Birnenbrot. With all these international fruitcakes to try, we discovered there was one more.
We left Switzerland with a sweet taste on our tongues and traveled to the UK for most, rich fruitcake. The Christmas fruitcake has white icing and a marzipan covering with a pretty snow scene. Since it was served in Yorkshire, we also had a side of cheese. The taste combination was outrageously seductive.
Now that we finished our international fruitcake tasting tour, we returned to the United States longing for home. We loved the international fruitcake but suddenly missed the familiar flavor of fruit, nuts, brandy and molasses in homemade American fruitcake. Dried fruits such as pears, oranges, cherries and raisins are healthy and yummy. The fruits are perfectly compliments by nuts such as almonds, hazel nuts and walnuts.
Fruitcake is loved around the world. If you have international clients, family or friends, send them a fabulous fruitcake for any occasion. There are all different types of fruitcake to choose from. Be daring and send a different fruitcake each time.
Your friends and family at home would also appreciate a fantastic fruitcake for holidays, birthdays or just to say you're thinking about them. Bring home a fruitcake for that special someone with a bottle of sweet wine for a sultry dessert. The many faces of fruitcake are perfect for all people, places and occasions.
